July 18 Bicycle Rodeo, Gallery Tour, Awards Reception

The Dalí Safety Summer culminated with a 3-part Celebration: A Bicycle Rodeo staged on the Museum Campus followed by a brief Gallery Tour and closing with a sumptuous buffet and Awards Ceremony.  120 to 140 participants and their families attended the event.

The Rodeo was facilitated by Tiffany Sabiel's Safe Routes To School team from John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

 The Bicycle Rodeo course included challenges such as scanning, rock dodge , a signal-stop-search station, a cross-walk station, slow race and finish line.  Participants were awarded a completion certificate for their efforts.  We had a nice turnout.

In addition, we offered helmet fitting, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a raffle giveaway.

 Thanks to Mahaffey Theater for allowing us to use their Garage as our back-up rain plan. And rain it DID!

 Representatives of sponsors, Jeeves Law Group and John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital were recognized by the FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) for their community service efforts to improve bicycle safety.

 Jeeves Law Group was so impressed with the decorated helmets that they awarded a spontaneous $10 and $20 prize for the helmets they felt were the most outstanding. Pictured is one happy winner!

 Following all the excitement of the Bicycle Rodeo, everyone had a chance to cool off in the Dalí Museum Galleries as Vickie Brunner, Family Programs Coordinator and Docent connected works by Dalí to our summer content.

 The crowd enjoyed delicious donated chicken nuggets, fruit and cookies from Chick-fil-A and sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich on Fourth Street North.

 Traffice Signs and Safety Cones decorated each table. And a Power Point slide show made everybody a star asphotos from summer camp were displayed on the big screen.

 Each participant and any other children in attendance were given gift bags with neon bicycle pins, tattoos, a bicycle chain bracelet and a Dalí hand-held fan.

 Handouts were available to take home on How to Re-Set a Slipped Bicycle Chain and  Head Wound facts: Why Head wounds bleed so profusely and How to Stop the Bleeding.  A good time was had by all at the closing Reception for Dalí Safety Summer on Tuesday July 18.
